The Snowflake - Paard Verzameld contemporary collective Challenge n°47

I've joined the Paard Verzameld Collective, to see what it could brings me.
What was interresting me the most is thoses "challenge" that are done by the collective on a monthly basis.

J'ai rejoint le groupe Paard Verzameld Collective, pour voir ce que cela pouvait m'apporter.
Ce qui m'intéressait le plus de prime abord c'est les "challenge" qui sont réalisés par le collectif tout les mois.

 Here's my reply to the n°47 'We're Walking in the Air', a tribute to Raymond Briggs.

Briggs (1934 -2022) was a British illustrator and author best known for the animated film The Snowman, a film adaptation of the book of the same name he wrote in 1978.

 

Our Paard Verzameld patron challenge this month is a tribute to Briggs, who sadly passed away this year. Creating a piece in his style, using coloured pencil only and a palette directly taken from 'The Snowman'.

 

Voici ma réponse au n°47 'We're Walking in the Air', un hommage à Raymond Briggs.

 

Briggs (1934-2022) était un illustrateur Britannique et auteur principalement connu pour le film d'animation The Snowman (le bonhomme de neige), un film qui était l'adaptation de son livre du même nom écrit en 1978.

 

Le challenge du mois à Paard Verzameld était un hommage à Briggs, qui est décédé cette année. Il fallait créer un dessin en respectant son style, et surtout en utilisant uniquement des crayons de couleurs et une palette de couleur directement tirée d'une illustration de 'The Snowman'. 

 

I wanted somethin' cute and that could illustrate a tale -in the spirit of what Briggs could draw-  I started to sketch some cuddles and found, while searching reference pictures a foal hiding under his mom. I pictured it quite immediatly, discovering the taste a snowflake while beeing protected by his mother from the unknow cold white thing.

 

Je voulais dessiner quelque chose de mignon qui pouvait illustrer un conte -dans l'esprit de ce que Briggs aurait pu dessiner- J'ai commencé par dessiner des interactions poulain/jument et j'ai trouvé, pendant mes recherches de références une photo d'un poulain qui se cachait sous sa mère. J'ai directement vu la scène, le poulain découvrant le goût d'un flocon de neige, tout en étant protégé par sa maman de l'inconnue matière blanche.

Eunoia - Paard Verzameld contemporary collective Challenge n°46

 Here's my reply to the n°46 "Eunoia" 

The chosen word 'Eunioa' represents a sense of good will, a beautiful spirit, being kind and wanting to help. This word seemed to resonate with our artists, who looked to their own relationship with horses for inspiration

This challenge is dedicated to Caotina Z, who was the perfect embodiment of ‘Eunoia’.

 

Le mot choisi 'Eunoia' représente le sens du bon vouloir, un bel esprit, être bon et vouloir aider. Ce mot devait résonner avec nos artistes, qui ont cherché dans la relation qu'ils avaient avec les chevaux pour inspiration. 

Ce challenge a été dédié à Caotina Z, qui était un exemple parfait du mot 'Eunoia'.

When I read the brief, I immediatly had Amira in mind. Because on how she battled for her life, a few year ago. She was the definition of Eunoia even in the darkest hours and survived despite one clinic who was willing to put her down. I followed what she told me, and today she's alive and happy.

Quand j'ai lu le thème, j'ai immédiatement pensé à Amira. En référence à combien elle a donné pour survivre il y a quelques années de cela. Elle a été la définition d'Eunoia, même dans les moments les plus dur et a survécu malgré une clinique peu encline à le voir et à lui donner sa chance. J'ai suivi ce qu'elle m'a dit et aujourd'hui elle est vivante et heureuse.

We also had a color palette to respect, wich was difficult, but with a lot of patience I was able to stick to it with my watercolor colours.

On avait aussi une palette de couleur à respecter, qui était difficile, mais avec de la patience j'ai réussi à la reproduire avec mes aquarelles.

a Deer for Christelle

A new commission! Yolene commissioned me this drawing as a gift for her daughter Christelle, who own "les bains des bois" (bath in the woods), so I was asked to do a deer in front of the establishment!

Une nouvelle commande! Yolene m'a commande ce dessin pour faire un cadeau à sa fille Christelle, qui est la patronne des "bains des bois", il m'a donc été demandé s'il était possible de dessiner un cerf devant l'établissement!

Here's my reply to the n°44 "(In)visible horse"

Art does not reproduce the visible, but makes visible' - Paul Klee (1879-1940).

The challenge for the Paard Verzameld Collective artists this month was to create work in the diverse style of Swiss born artist, Paul Klee.
Our reference was the beautiful Hidalgo, photographed by Sanne Wammes, owned by Fabienne Langenegger.

Voici ma réponse au n°44 "(In)visible horse"

 

L'art ne reproduit pas le visible, il rend visible' - Paul Klee (1879-1940)

Le challenge du Paard Verzameld Collective ce mois ci était de reproduire le travail dans divers style de l'artiste né en Suisse, Paul Klee.

Notre référence était le beau Hidalgo, photographié par Sanne Wammes, et appartenant à Fabienne Langenegger.

Not an easy one, because in my art history class, clearly expressionism, surrealism, bauhaus (cubism and abstract) aren't my favorite. I've already worked those while in art class and they aren't my best memories.

But well... Paul Klee is one of my mother favorite, so I asked her and found a few books in our artbook collection. Then I searched, did some reading and found reference I was comfortable with.

I did a few research, talked about them with my mother as she know well Klee's work. She helped me pick. The coloring in square was so difficult for me, I had to start over more than twice...

But I didn't gave up.

Once the drawing finished, I showed it again to my mother, asking her what she thought and she said it was great and she could clearly see some Paul Klee into it. I take her words.

 

Un challenge difficile... dans mes cours d'histoire de l'art, très clairement l'expressionnisme, surréalisme, bauhaus (cubisme et abstraction) c'est pas ce que je préfère. J'ai déjà travaillé ces sujets à l'école et c'est pas franchement mes meilleurs souvenirs.

 

Mais... Paul Klee c'est un des favori de ma mère, donc je lui ai demandé son aide et trouvé quelques livres dans notre bibliothèque. Ensuite j'ai feuilleté et lu, trouvé des références qui me plaisaient.

Après un peu de recherches, de discussions avec ma mère pour avoir son avis éclairé... elle m'a aidé à choisir quoi faire. La coloration en carré était très difficile, j'ai dû recommencer plus d'une fois...
Mais je n'ai pas abandonné.
 
Une fois le dessin fini, je l'ai montré à ma mère, pour avoir son sentiment et elle m'a dit qu'elle pouvait voir l'influence de Paul Klee dans mon dessin. Je prends ses mots.

 

 

In the end, my colors came up a bit too bright than what I expected, but you can clearly see that they are close to my references.

A la fin les couleurs sont plus pétantes que ce que je voulais, mais vous pouvez clairement voir qu'elles sont proches de mes références!
